Peterborough is home to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Peterborough Petes, ,made famous for turning out many well known NHL players including; Zach Bogosian, Eric and Jordan Staal, Chris Pronger, Steve Yzerman, Bob Gainey, Mike Ricci and Tie Domi. Peterborough is also the home of the 2012 Mann Cup Champions, the Peterborough Lakers Major Series Lacrosse team.

Festivals & Events:
Every year Peterborough comes alive with a variety of festivals and events. Fireworks dazzle the crowds on the Victoria Day and Canada Day long weekends after event filled evenings at Del Crary Park. During the summer, Peterborough Musicfest runs every Wednesday and Saturday night at Del Crary Park on the Fred Anderson stage. This exciting concert series has featured many major including; Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell, Carly Rae Jepsen, Hanson and many more. Also, during the summer months the downtown area plays host to many other events such as the Hootenanny on Hunter and Peterborough Ribfest. Every winter, on the first Saturday of December, Peterborough residents line George Street to take part in the annual Santa Claus Parade.
